Guerlain’s Eau de Lit: The Art of Clean Linen and Cocooning

Eau de Lit, sold exclusively in our Guerlain points of sale, is a product I am proud of, because at the time, the idea was running through my head, even though no request had been made to me by marketing.
Inspiration: A Dream of Freshness
I had long dreamed of a product that smelled of clean linen, the scent of sheets that have floated in the fresh wind of a country garden, on a cool morning and which in passing have stolen all its aromatic and green scents. In the base notes, I imagined musky notes which also smell clean, but which can also surround you with a cozy cocoon.
In 2005, I proposed this product to the marketing department, which was not immediately 100% convinced; the director then told me when I presented the finished product, name and concept: “we will launch it as a limited edition and we shall see.”
This product was so successful that it is now a catalog product and sales are constantly increasing. First of all, the perfume pleases the whole world; I proposed it during my numerous travels, Japan, United States, Europe, Russia etc.
And I haven’t met a single person who wasn’t seduced by this product! And then, it is a superb gift idea, for about the same price as a beautiful bouquet of flowers, it is a home fragrance that will seduce everyone you offer it to.
How to use Eau de Lit?
On pillows, sheets, 5 minutes before going to bed, in the room, on curtains etc. I guarantee you, you will have sweet dreams. When you travel, take it in your suitcase, you will be happy to purify the air of your hotel room, thus recreating your little bubble of comfort with a very endearing scent.
History: The Guerlain Art of Living
At Guerlain, the art of perfume and the art of living have always been one. In 1900, one perfumed one’s gloves as well as one’s handkerchiefs or décolleté; the sillage underlining the gesture, a sign of refinement and good taste. Homes also had the perfumer’s favor.
He granted them his rose or jasmine accords in potpourri, slipped into wardrobes, between freshly starched sheets, depositing a few scents in flannel sachets there. Today, Guerlain reinvents one of these delicate traditions with Eau de Lit, the use of which is discovered like reading a love story.
Poetic and Olfactory Description
“She often gets up earlier because she knows I like to lounge in the morning. With time, we grant much to dreaming souls. I surround her pillow with my arms, nose plunged into the cotton, and I close my eyes. I see her again as every evening, snuggling up against me under the sheets. Mischievous. The hour of tenderness has struck.
The charms of Morpheus have no hold; I prefer her pretty stratagem so well prepared. She does not wear perfume, granting the bed this happiness to better mingle her scent with it.
The perfume of our love thus has this soft, aromatic, and woody nuance that evolves with desire and the heat of bodies. First, it is a satiny freshness that I smell: bergamot and coriander leaves that a bit of star anise intoxicates with its liquorous accents.
Subtly, this freshness fades; the floral notes of neroli and sage begin to trouble my senses. Addictive, they melt on my skin and on hers, nestle in her curves and capture me. Then, I embrace her, cradled by vanilla and white musks which soften the cedar wood in a sensual embrace.
Depth and softness remain because the memory of this perfume embraces that of the images. The day starts well. Outside, the sheets fly in the wind like a wink to this moment that I look forward to finding again in the evening.”
