The Déserts d’Orient Collection by Guerlain: A Tribute to the Arabian Nights

A new collection first launched in the Middle East, then in all our boutiques, in the “Exclusives” range. The Déserts d’Orient (Deserts of the East) are achieving well-deserved success.
The Genesis: Thierry Wasser’s Immersion
Thierry Wasser, our House perfumer, before embarking on the creation of this collection, took the time to immerse himself in all the significant launches specially designed for the Middle East. He went there often, interviewed advisors, clients, experts, etc.
And after long reflection, many months later, he composed three fragrances that have seduced both women and men, in all Middle Eastern countries of course, but also Russia and Europe.
The Spirit of the Collection
These are fragrances that have succeeded in associating the spirit of the East, the West, and the spirit of Guerlain. It is a Tribute to enchanting Arabia through three emblematic creations evoking the Orient in all its splendor.
Mythical and historical cradle of perfumes, bearer of the most symbolic essences. This scented trilogy, which Guerlain wished to magnify and adorn with luxurious and dazzling volutes, in their sumptuous bottles worthy of the Arabian Nights.
There would be no great perfumes without the Orient. Thierry Wasser wished to tell in his own way, with brilliance and freedom, while striving to make shine notes he particularly loves: incense, roses, orange blossoms, aromatics, spices, woods, amber, myrrh, saffron, benzoin, among others, have been, for centuries, the object of a true cult, as much for religious reasons as cultural ones.
Did not the great prophets recommend the use of perfumes to distinguish oneself from others or within the framework of indispensable fumigation rituals?
Rose Nacrée du Désert
Family: Floral Woody
The olfactory architecture:
- The saffron note is common to the three perfumes, the common thread.
- Patchouli, cedar, oud wood.
- Spices: turmeric, cardamom.
- Balsamic notes: benzoin, myrrh.
It features a magnificent Persian Rose: an intense, charismatic rose, a flower of character that possesses a proven mystery. Expressly selected by Thierry (Guerlain exclusive).
Its typical essence gives spirit to this composition where oud wood flourishes with smoky and amber accents which, by its deep presence, gives a complex intonation. To this intimate echo come to join, in dots, saffron notes and other sweet and spicy ones.
Encens Mythique d’Orient
Family: Oriental Musk
The olfactory architecture:
- Saffron is still there in the top notes: aldehyde, rose, and pink pepper.
- Vetiver wood, cedar, mosses, patchouli.
- Ambergris, white musks, incense.
A smoky effect, aromatic waves, a divine emotion. To this flight of incense, the rose imprints its ardent accents dubbed by the aldehydes which trouble it. Its true character displays woody notes including patchouli.
But its measureless softness and exceptional depth come from the true and majestic ambergris from New Zealand, specially selected by Thierry (in the form of a communelle).
It is he, he alone, who imposes his fabulous tempo and who exalts the saffron note and all the intensity of an exceptional musk. Soft breezes of orange blossoms rock and accompany this enigmatic opus.
Songe d’un Bois d’Été
Family: Leather
The olfactory architecture:
A deep leather that only reveals its radiance through its intensity adorned with touches of cedar wood, patchouli, myrrh. Powerful while in chiaroscuro, very enveloping, it is the perfect synthesis of the taste for spices, woods, and their resins.
Its eminently masculine character, at once wild and racy, is sharpened by a leathery breath associated with floral accents (even though I know that some women wear it, to my great surprise). This torrid tenderness, this suave and wild energy evoke a refined adventure.
