ScenTree: The Collaborative Encyclopedia of Perfume Raw Materials
The goal of my blog, which has existed for over 10 years now, is to take you behind the scenes of perfume, to communicate as much knowledge as possible about perfume and raw materials.
Here is an initiative that I find very interesting and that I share with you, because it aligns with my educational approach.
An Initiative Born at ISIPCA
Two years ago, Thomas Espinasse along with Maxime Baud, students of the Master MSc at ISIPCA (The International Institute of Perfumery, Cosmetics and Food Flavoring in Versailles), imagined and developed a site: www.scentree.co.
In order to share the result of their work, this site is now operational. It is a valuable tool for all enthusiasts who wish to deepen what we discuss here, whether on the training of noses or perfumery professions.
A Collaborative and Complete Tool on Ingredients
This site is also Collaborative, interactive, and free, and currently available in French. The goal of this site is to gather all information and knowledge on the raw materials of perfumery.
It covers the entire spectrum of the perfumer’s organ:
- Natural ingredients: such as flowers (rose, jasmine…), woods (sandalwood, cedar…) or spices.
- Synthetic raw materials: often misunderstood but essential to modern perfumery.
For each ingredient, ScenTree offers precise olfactory descriptions, technical data, and information on chemistry, botany, and regulations.
Understanding and De-dramatizing
This site will be available to the general public, where they can obtain information on certain natural raw materials. It will also allow deciphering allergens indicated on packaging.
The objective is to de-dramatize the subject of allergenic and regulated raw materials. It is an essential transparency approach, just like the one we apply for our bespoke creations or our collections, in order to better understand what you wear on your skin.
